He also holds a B.A. in Theatre from Western Washington University. Professionally, in addition to directing and design work, he has served as a Multi Arts Coordinator and Artist in Residence for the Seattle Public Schools, as well as for the State of Alaska. He is a former faculty member for Fresno City College's Theatre Department.

Ron is also a professional puppeteer and make up artist. He is a recipient of a Bush Administration "Point of Light" Award for his work in theatre and education and is a former Kennedy Center for the Arts Grant recipient.

In addition to his work in the performing arts, Ron is also an accomplished fine artist. He is a sculptor, jeweler, painter and muralist and works in a variety of mediums including glass, silver, bronze, watercolor, ink and more. For Ovation!, in addition to his role as Artistic Director, Ron also serves as Technical Director and does all set and lighting design for the company. As Ovation!'s Master Carpenter, he also constructs the majority of the sets and specialty props that he designs, as well as paints them.

In 2003, Ron directed, and designed the sets for, The Sound of Music for Bainbridge Performing Arts. He is also a founding board member of Island Theatre for whom he has directed several productions, including the fully staged Blithe Spirit. For Ovation!, Ron has directed Oliver!, Into The Woods, Beauty and the Beast, Amahl and the Night Visitors, The Pirates of Penzance, Broadway Nights, Night and Day/Songs of Love and Regret, The Music Man , A Christmas Carol , Hansel and Gretel and Oklahoma!  He resides on the island with his wife Marijane and his daughter Piper.
