Welcome to our 2026 summer camp, Once Upon a Mattress! Under the direction of experienced actor and educator Preston Boyd, students will be introduced to all of the musical theater basics. Our theatre camp offers a fun, safe, and encouraging environment for kids to explore acting, singing, dancing, costume and set design, and production. At the end of the camp, performers will present a live show for family and friends.

TUITION: $800 if you sign up after June 27th, 10% off ($720) until June 27th.

PRESTON BOYD, Camp Director
Preston retired from teaching Music and Drama for 24 years at a private Pre-K -12 college preparatory school in Bradenton, Florida. He is currently an adjunct professor at the State College of Florida, teaching Theatre Appreciation. Preston holds a B.A. degree from WWU in Bellingham, and an M.Ed. degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa. A member of Actors' Equity Association, he has performed as an actor or musician on stages in Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Sarasota, and Off-Broadway in New York. He and his wife of 51 years (Priscilla), a stage manager, have two grown sons (Dorian and Colin) who both enjoy careers in technical theatre. Preston is very excited to return to his roots in western Washington to join the Ovation team for this project.
NOA REHDER, Assistant Director
Noa first got a taste of theater when she was ten years old performing in Ovation's production of Bye Bye Birdie in 2020. Since then, she has been obsessed with all aspects of theater. Noa is now a senior in high school who (when not in the theater) enjoys Scandinavian folk dancing, playing the harp, and reading. She is thrilled to jump into assistant directing for Once Upon a Mattress and can't wait to get started!
DIANE HOEFT, Choreographer
Diane Hoeft trained in LA and NYC, studying lyrical with Doug Caldwell, jazz with Desiree Robbins and Keri LaGrand, and tap with Gregg Russell. At UCLA, she dove into musical theater and voice while majoring in Communications. Her work as a model and dancer took her to NY, LA, Paris, and London, where she got to collaborate with delightful choreographers, tour nationally with Wella and Matrix, and perform at the iconic Moulin Rouge. Closer to home, Diane has performed with Bainbridge Performing Arts (Anastasia, Dowager Empress), Ovation (Cinderella, Stepmother; plus vocals in the Stephen Sondheim Revue and Seasons of Love), and Bainbridge Ballet (La Fille Mal Gardée, Widow Simone; Nutcracker, Mouse Queen), and choreographed for Bainbridge High School Drama productions Once Upon A Mattress and Grease.
MARGARET JOHNSTON, Music Director
Margaret has been associated with Ovation! since 2015, when she did her first show with them (HMS Pinafore). Since then, she has performed in Ovation shows from 2017's Sweeney Todd to 2026's Into the Woods, as well as at several other local theatres. She received vocal training from Christine Usher at the Washington Academy of Music. Margaret sings with Ovation's adult choir, Crescendo, and with the Bainbridge Chorale.
In addition to performing, Margaret is the vice president of the Ovation Board of Directors and has produced Cinderella, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, the Sondheim Tribute Revue, and Into the Woods for Ovation. She has also produced and directed several concert shows, most recently 2025's Flights of Fantasy.
